David Barrows world fell apart at the age of eleven after his mother died.   • Adam never pushed David into doing things he didn't want to do or gave ultimatums, but gave David the courage and gentle nudges to do them himself instead
  • The storyline was excellent, good pacing, no boring parts, nothing contrived
  • David's hardships weren't glossed over, but the reader doesn't get 'anguished to death' either
